Description: For more than 40 years, the Knights of Columbus of St. Mary’s Catholic Church have made our barbecue a tasty Labor Day tradition in Rome and Floyd County. That’s why we’re honored to be included as part of Rome’s 175th Anniversary celebration set for Sept. 4-7 at several downtown venues. To show our appreciation, the Knights are adding a special “Salute to Service” honoring local groups and organizations that have helped make Rome such a wonderful home for all of our families and friends. This year’s barbecue is set for 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 7, at the Rome Civic Center. In addition to serving some of the region’s best pork, beef, chicken, ribs and Brunswick stew, this year’s barbecue includes an opportunity for civic and charitable groups to set up table-side displays for our dine-in and take-out customers to sample. Participating groups are asked to purchase 25 tickets ($200). Local groups are asked to contact either Pat Adams or Jim Powell about setting up displays during our Labor Day feast. You’ll find all the details on our Web site, www.romekofc.com. Or call Pat at 706-235-5358 or 706-233-2222. Or contact us by e-mail at romekofc@gmail.com. Another key part of the city’s 175th Anniversary celebration will be the bake sale accompanying the barbecue. Special cakes and cupcakes will be available, all themed to be a sweet part of the anniversary celebration. And don’t forget the main course: the meats and fixings that have been part of our Labor Day tradition for more than 40 years. This year’s menu includes (dine-in or take out): -A barbecue plate with your choice of beef, pork, ribs or chicken served with Brunswick stew, baked beans chips and a roll. Price: $8.00 -A pound of pork for $8.00. -A pound of beer for $8.50. -A half check for $4.00 -A barbecue sandwich for $3.00 -A quart of Brunswick stew for $8.00 -A full rack of ribs for $16.00. Tickets are on sale for $8.00 each and can be applied toward purchase of any of the above. Also still available are sponsorship opportunities priced from $35 to $140. Packages include on-site signage, display space on our Knights’ Web site and spots on our special placemats. All are tax deductable. Proceeds from the 2009 barbecue are donated to local charities supported by the Knights. Last year, more than $14,000 was contributed to local groups and individuals with special needs.
