Description: The Christmas Candlelight Processional down Broad Street on Tuesday, December 8 has been cancelled due to a 90% chance of rain. The Christmas Concert will still take place at 7:00pm in the Forum. The concert is free. The program will be a reading of the Christmas Story from the book of Luke with responses from the orchestra and choir in Christmas carols, special solos and a reading of “One Solitary Life.” Westminster Presbyterian Church Handbell Choir, and choirs from the Montessori School of Rome and the First United Methodist Church, Three Rivers Singers, Gospel International Worship Choir , the Shorter College Chorus, and the Pepperell High School Chorus will present a program of traditional Christmas music. Combined, there will be over 200 choir members and more than 80 musicians. Dr. Kirsten Kunkle, Assistant Professor of Music at Shorter College, is a featured soloist. The orchestra for the evening is the Northwest Georgia Winds under the direction of Sam Baltzer. Narration for the evening will be provided by Reverend Dr. Jacqueline Rose-Tucker. Dr. Rose-Tucker is a native of Washington, DC and has been a leader within the Methodist Church for her entire life. Currently she serves as District Superintendent of the Rome-Carrollton District of in North Georgia Annual Conference of the Methodist Church. She is the first African American female to serve on the cabinet in the North Georgia Conference. Dr. Rose-Tucker will be reading the Christmas Story from the book of Luke. Tom Barclay, who will be reading the “One Solitary Life” began his career in radio in Rome, in 1985, when he was Assistant General Manager of WKCX radio. He won several awards as a sports broadcaster and morning show host while in Rome and was involved in numerous community service projects. Tom has also served on the Board of Directors for the Georgia Association of Broadcasters. Mr. Barclay joined GPB in 2006 after spending 33 years in commercial radio.
